Your Story: Season Two

April 19 – May 17, 2020

Jesus was the first incarnation; the church – as the body of Christ – is the second incarnation. God’s intent for the church is to carry forward and expand the mission of Jesus. This series uses excerpts from the book of Acts to highlight the unique role of the church within the story of God.

The book of Acts is Luke’s follow-up to his gospel. Luke tells the story of Jesus; Acts tells the story of the early church. It joins together what Jesus had begun to do with what the church continued to do. Both books are written to Theophilus, whose name means “Lover of God.” The book traces the expansion of the church from its beginning in Jerusalem through the missionary journeys of Paul.

April 19 – To All People (Acts 1:1-11, 2:5-6)

Main Point: God’s intent for the church is for it to be a place for all people.

April 26 – The Good News (Acts 2:1-41)

Main Point: Through the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus all people have the opportunity to be forgiven and to live a new life.

May 3 – The New Community (Acts 2:42-47)

Main Point: God designed the church to function as a model for how-to live-in community with others.

May 10 – Advancing and Expanding (Acts 2:47, 5:12-16, 6:1, 8:4)

Main Point: Rather than becoming complacent or content, the early church shared the message of Jesus far and wide.

May 17 – The Next Chapter

Main Point: Every generation of Christ-followers has a responsibility to build, equip, and extend the church in their own time and context.
