This series leads up to and culminates with Easter. It focuses on seven questions that Jesus asked of his audience and followers. These are questions that we must still answer today. The entire series will be drawn from the Gospels and will build towards Resurrection Sunday (“who is you’re looking for?”).

While visiting the pool of Bethesda, Jesus met a man who had been an invalid for thirty-eight years. Every day the man would visit the pool, hoping to be the first person to enter in order to be healed. Jesus asks him what seems to be a strange question: “do you want to get well?” On the surface, the answer seems obvious. But when we dig deeper we find that not everyone does want to get well.

We all have hypocritical tendencies. We tend to find the fault in others while overlooking (or excusing) our own bad behavior. While this might be human nature, it is not to be the way Christ-followers behave. Understanding this teaching should soften our attitudes towards the brokenness of others.
Matthew 7:1-6
March 18-19, 2017
Jesus is approached by two blind men. The question he asks them is simple and to the point: do you believe I am able to do this? Their answer? Two words … “Yes, Lord.”
Matthew 9:27-34

Jesus had been attracting a greater following, yet not everyone understood who he was. So, he asks the disciples what the crowds believe about him. Teacher and prophet. But Jesus wants to know what they believe about him – “Who do you say I am?” This leads to Peter’s great confession and the promise of the church. In the same way, each of us must answer the question “Who do I say Jesus is?”
Matthew 16:13-20
April 1-2, 2017
Jesus has finished celebrating the Lord’s Supper with his disciples and has retreated to the Mount of Olives to pray. We know from the other Gospels that he has taken Peter, James, and John with him and asked them to watch and pray. When he returns, he finds them sleeping! “The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.”
Luke 22:39-46 / Matthew 26:36-46

This question is one of the seven statements Jesus makes from the cross. It is perhaps the most poignant. “Why have you forsaken me?” puts a spotlight on what the cross was all about and what Jesus had to endure on our behalf. It helps prepare for the week of Easter by drawing attention to our own sinfulness.
Matthew 27:46
April 15-16, 2017
This will be our Easter weekend message and speaks directly to the resurrection. Even today, Jesus still asks every person the same question: “Who is it you’re looking for?” and each of us must give an answer.
John 21:15
