Life-Changing Teaching

Mountainview is committed to providing life-changing teaching that is drawn from the Bible. We believe that practical teaching is one of the keys to developing spiritual maturity.

Freedom: Galatians

Our summer study will take us through the book of Galatians. In Galatians, Paul describes the freedom Jesus offers as compared to the burdens of legalism. He often contrasts the work of the Spirit with acts of the human nature – showing the emptiness of a life without God’s presence. The series will be broken up in the middle with a stand-alone weekend on July 1 (Fourth of July).

June 2-3 – Introduction to Galatians

This opening message will introduce people to the background, audience, and situation of Galatians. It is designed to set the stage for the rest of the series.

June 9-10 – No Other Gospel

Jesus said we would know the truth and the truth would set us free. When we follow a different gospel than the one offered by Jesus, one noticeable characteristic is a loss of freedom. We must always be careful to not pervert the gospel of Christ by making it into something it never has been.

June 16-17 – The Crucified Life

What does it mean to be “crucified with Christ” and to have Jesus living within us? In Paul’s writings, the cross is more than a symbol but represents a way of life – an attitude that shapes our decisions, priorities, and behavior. The crucified life is one that daily takes up its cross and follows Jesus.

June 23-24 – Living in (and by) Grace

We cannot earn our way into good standing with God. This was true of both the old and new covenants. Paul is concerned that the Galatians were falling back into the old habits of legalism. He calls that “foolish.”

June 30 – July 1 – Baptism Weekend

July 7-8 – Living in Relationship with God

The incredible truth of the gospel is that we can become sons and daughter of God – no longer slaves but co-heirs with Christ. There are characteristics of this new relationship that indicate a change has occurred – things such as being clothed with Christ.

July 14-15 – In Step with the Spirit

The lesser known part of the Trinity, the Holy Spirit remains a mystery to many evangelical Christians. In many ways, he is the “forgotten God” to use the words of Francis Chan. This lack of understanding directly impacts the health and vitality of our spiritual lives.

July 21-22 – Becoming a Difference Maker

Christianity was never intended to be a solitary, individual experience. If we are imitating Jesus, then by default we will be serving others. This particular passage deals specifically with the idea of burden bearing.

July 28-29 – Compassion Weekend
